Hotel Sakcari El Amanecer Blog
Hotel Sakcari El Amanecer is a beautiful lakefront eco hotel located on the shores of Lake Atitlan.
One of the main reasons people come to Lake Atitlan and more specifically San Pedro La Laguna is to climb the giant named Volcano San Pedro. Volcano San Pedro is a stratovolcano that stands at 3,020 meters or 9,908 feet tall. Volcano San Pedro is the smallest of the three volcanoes located on the shores of Lake Atitlan and is the most climbed due to its convenient location and well maintained trails. Prices and quality of tours vary from agency to agency but in general you can expect to pay around Q200 per person. If you negotiate you may be able to get someone to take you or around Q150. The hike takes around 3-5 hours from start to finish and you'll want to leave as early as possible so you get spectacular views from the summit. Feel free to contact us and will be more than happy to make arrangements for your Volcano San Pedro Adventure! - Matthew

Guatemala, Lake Atitlan and San Pedro La Laguna are all famous for their Spanish language schools and it's one of the main reasons tourist come to the San Pedro La Laguna and stay for long periods of time. The most popular and probably the best Spanish school is San Pedro Spanish School. This school has been the primary school for most of our guests and we highly recommend them. The second most popular school is the Cooperativa Spanish School and lots of our guests also attend this school and speak very highly about it and their staff. I can only speak from my personal experience and that was at San Pedro Spanish School, but I absolutely loved my time there and I learned a lot. We've had several guests spend a week at one then go spend some time at the other so you'll get two different school perspectives and meet new people. - Matthew
Check back often and we'll have new post going up almost every week!

One of my favorite spots to eat in San Pedro La Laguna is Pequenos Pecados . This second story Italian restaurant offers some of the most delicious meals on Lake Atitlan. The owner Ricardo will always come out and say hi to new faces and make them feel welcome. They have daily specials like risotto with shrimp and asparagus or an amazing three pepper steak. You can pick and choose your favorite sides and make your meal just the way you want. Pequenos Pecados has something for everyone so take minute the next time you're in town and go check it out! We'll be uploading their menu soon so you can check back and see the menu here on our blog. - Matthew

El Barrio is a longstanding San Pedro favorite for its neighborhood atmosphere and friendly vibes. The huge drinks menu features over 60 beers and ciders from Europe and the Americas and an impressive range of top shelf liquors. Indulge, you're on vacation! The indoor bar is great for barflies and sports fans and the chilled out beer garden is weather-proof whether it's sunny or raining. There's also a large games room with darts and a quality pool table (the newest, flattest table on the lake!). El Barrio also hosts the friendliest poker game in town, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Hungry? El Barrio's famous “4-course for 40Q” brunch on Saturdays and Sundays (10 til 2) is one of San Pedro's best deals. Monday night is 2Q wing night, perfect for sharing a big pile of wings with friends.
